Public speaking
Although I am quite reserved, I tend to be comfortable talking in front of a crowd. From the years 2018 - 2021, I participated in forensics, specifically Original Oration. I wrote persuasive speeches and performed them throughout the season in front of judges. I won many first place awards and qualified for state and national tournaments for 3 years.
I first heard of active listening through Leslie Peters, an author and guest speaker at one of my classes at KU. Active listening is dedicating all attention to someone while they are speaking. Before I was aware of the importance of active listening, I would often times think of my reply while someone was speaking to me. This meant that I was only comprehending part of what they were saying and not fully absorbing their message. In summer 2024, I utilized my active listening skills during my internship in asset management to learn as much as possible.
Active listening
strong self-accountability and determination
I have always been under the belief that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to. For example, When I was in the 6th grade, I realized I wanted to graduate high school as a valedictorian, so that is what I did. When I have set a goal for myself, I take it very seriously and am always confident that I will achieve it.
